2) SHORT NEWS STORY VERSION Wolf Aviation Fund Grant Proposals Due by November 15Funding supports aviation education, public service work, airport outreach, and aviation research. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 1, 2007 Each year the Wolf Aviation Fund provides funding for projects that "promote and support general aviation." This year's deadline for proposals is November 15. Projects must fit into the foundation's seven major program areas, which are: Developing Public Policy and Airports; Networking and Mutual Support; Development and Alternative Resources; Communications, Media, and Community Relations; General Aviation Technology, Safety, and Noise; Outreach - Improving Public Understanding and Perception; and Aviation and Space Education. In last year's 2006 program the Fund supported 37 such projects. Among those funded were seed funds for a major film on the life of famed aviatrix Pancho Barnes, a collegiate study regarding the economic effects of new aviation technologies, a media project for the volunteer pilot organization Los Medicos Voladores, a special training simulator devoted to improving crosswind landing techniques, an airport association campaign championing a new airport, an educational program teaching the art of lighter than air flight, another providing an open source free design for hot air balloon kits, a sport pilot guide produced by the National Association of Flight instructors, safety seminars for African bush pilots flying charity missions, and an aeromedical safety training program for rural Alaska. Other projects enhanced regional and national aviation education programs, celebrated the accomplishments of those who fly to help others, enhanced public appreciation of general aviation, supported targeted programs in aviation museums, and provided improved web resources for organizations working in the seven program areas described above. Often proposals received partial support, because so many were excellent and it was believed that by providing partial funding as challenge grants the recipients then could use the honor and recognition of a Wolf Aviation Fund grant to approach others and seek additional funding. The Foundation is working to increase the funding available for projects since there were many good ideas that could not otherwise receive support. If you or your group would like to learn about and help fund some of these projects please contact the Wolf Aviation Fund. Log on to www.wolf-aviation.org
